Powell Lake Backpacking Adventure

Information

August 8-10, 2018 the Lodi Pathfinders will be going on a backpacking trip to Powell Lake located near Pinecrest California and Dodge Ridge ski area off CA Highway 108.  We will meet at the Fairmont Church parking lot about 8:00 AM on Wednesday, August 8 and return to the church  in the late afternoon of Friday, August 10.  We will need your help with transportation.

All pathfinders and friends coming on the trip without their parent must come with the completed permission and medical forms.  Download the forms from our website: http://www.wildernesswalker.com/Downloads/Pathfinders_Trip_Packet.pdf

It will take about 3 hours to drive to the Gianelli Trailhead where we will start the hike to Powell Lake.  It is a 2.3 mile easy hike from the trailhead to the lake.  We will setup our base camp when we reach the lake.  We will be spending the two nights at Powell Lake.  The second day we plan to do a day hike. The day hike is about 4 mile round trip to Chewing Gum Lake and back.  The third day (Thursday) we will break camp and take a leisurely hike back to the cars and then drive home.

On the Powell Lake Backpacking Adventure you will be carrying all your equipment and supplies in your backpack while hiking the 2.3 miles up to the lake and again on the return hike.  The hike will be along the moderately traveled Gianelli Trail.  This trail is rated “Easy” by AllTrails.com.  You will need a good backpack, hiking boots, sleeping bag & pad, and several other items listed on the Backpackers Check List.  The check list and other details are available here for downloading.  Click on the links below.
